Search a recipe database for “fresh fig appetizer” and you’ll come up with lots of variations on this theme. Tangy goat cheese and salty prosciutto play off the sweetness of the ripe figs. As we discovered, it’s classic for a reason. My only innovation was to dust the figs with freshly ground pepper, which added a subtle bite to the rest of the flavors.
